Brian C. Reeder, Executive Director of the Environmental Education Center
Brian C. Reeder, Professor of Biological and Environmental Sciences,
Institute for Regional Analysis and Public Policy affiliate, and
Executive Director of the Center for Environmental Education received
his Ph.D. in Environmental Biology from The Ohio State University in
1990. Dr. Reeder teaches courses in the Environmental Science Program,
including Wetland Ecology and Management, Limnology, Ecology,
Introduction to Environmental Science, and Environmental Education.
He
has been awarded over 2.5 million dollars in research grants by various
agencies, including the National Science Foundation, National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration, USEPA, US Forest Service, and
Department of Education. His current research involves assessing
primary production in wetlands, ecology and management of reservoirs
and hatchery ponds, and investigations of the impacts of non-point
pollution on the Licking River.
His graduate students have gone
on to be successful in prestigious Ph.D. programs, as well and in
environmental consulting and management. Dr. Reeder has published over
30 scholarly articles and book chapters, over 50 abstracts, and given
over 60 scholarly presentations. Dr. Reeder has received numerous
service awards for his service with regional agencies including the
Ohio River Basin Consortium for Research and Education, Licking River
Watershed Watch, Taking Wing, and the American Fisheries Society
Southern Division.
April Haight, Director, Environmental Education Center
Ms. Haight has been actively involved with environmental education
efforts on campus since she was president of the Environmental Science
Club as an undergraduate student, and has continued efforts to promote
environmental education in her professional positions and volunteer
activities. Before becoming the Director of MSU Environmental
Education Center, Ms. Haight served the University for 12 years in
facilities management as Recycling Coordinator and Energy Conservation
Manager.
Ms. Haight serves as the MSU region’s Personal
Responsibility in a Desirable Environment (PRIDE) Coordinator. She
trains volunteers, and participates as a volunteer, for Licking River
Watershed Watch, and the Rowan County Recycling Center. She was
recently recognized for her years of service to the area helping with
recycling and solid waste, and among her numerous service awards is the
most recent recipient of MSU’s Distinguished Service Award.
April
brings a diverse background to the Environmental Education Center. She
is an MSU alumni with a B.S. in Environmental Science, M.S. in Biology
with emphasis on wetland ecology, and an MBA. Haight is an active
member of the North American Association of Environmental Educators,
Association of Energy Engineers, and Women in Energy and Environmental
Leadership. She has conducted a number of workshops, presented at
conferences, published scholarly articles, and brought hundreds of
thousands of dollars in grants to MSU.
